‘Save our Sculpture’ – Morecambe 5km Fun Run

Morecambe 5km Fun Run: ‘Save our Sculpture’

Venus & Cupid Arts Trust is running a fundraising campaign because the Venus Sculpture was badly damaged in the hard frosts of Spring 2018. The tiny ceramic tiles of the mosaic patterns came away from the surface in many patches as the grout had crumbled underneath them. The solution was to bring Venus into a safe place to dry out in November so that Shane Johnstone, the original artist, could carry out repairs. No workshop was big enough for this so we hit on the idea of taking up the opportunity of a lease on an empty shop unit. We made arrangements with The Arndale, Morecambe Bay as we knew the owners, the New River Company have a policy of offering low cost or free space to charities during the current retail recession. The cost of all the repairs and the transport costs to and from the site will come to just under £3,000.

So far we have raised a little over half the money from a small grant, donations and an open day at the Arndale. We are hoping the 5k Fun Run on the prom on 9th June will appeal to lots of people and we welcome all who fancy joining in.
